Atelier Areti in "I'll be your mirror"

MILAN FUORI SALONE 2021

Atelier Areti in ‘I’ll be your mirror’

Some stress and uncertainty preceded the installation and opening of ‘I’ll be your mirror’. Originally planned in 2020, the team at H+O (design collaboration between Josephine Hoffmeyer and Elisa Ossino) decided to take a leap of faith and present it, with some changes, in September 2021.

Not to take things too literally, but the bold colours and shapes suggest an air of defiance in the face of long-lasting and ongoing uncertainty.

16 of our lights, from 2009 to 2021 works, were exhibited within the apartment installation.

Though conceived over a 12 year period, the family resemblance is evident.

Seeing the pieces staged in a very different setting sometimes brings out qualities and characteristics that we are surprised to discover.

This installation was such an experience, we saw the Bonhomme floor light stand proudly in front of the terracotta wall and turquoise chimney.

The black Rotation floor light seemed to solemnly guard the ochre and green entry.

The Oyster floor light had a star quality to it, contrasting with the bright red tiles cladding the column behind.

The Sticks pendant in the centre of the main room was able to establish its presence through a strong geometry, though retain its delicate nature.

The new Elements series, of which 3 pieces were shown for the first time in this exhibition, were able to integrate seamlessly into this setting, despite their rather bold nature.

The array floor light in white and yellow and the tube with globes and cones wall light in yellow and red gave the romantic and melancholic bedroom a touch of modernity and defiance.

In the same way that each light is from a different design period of Atelier Areti, yet there is a strong air of familiarity, in this installation, each room has its unique character and aura, yet they belong together.

Uniting is the boldness and intensity of the colours and shapes signalling the creative will to exist.

We are sharing with you several images taken on the first days of the installation, showing a selection of the exhibited lights. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing further images with additional pieces.

We warmly thank everyone who has visited in person or taken the time and interest to look through the imagery and texts on the installation.
